  • Opportunity at a Glance

    The Research Professor position will have a primary focus on research and research-related activities (~80% of the role), with limited teaching (~10%) and service (~10%) roles. The successful candidate is expected to identify, develop and lead research program(s) that aligns with one or more key research areas (infectious diseases [bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epidemiology, pathology, immunology and/or antimicrobial/anthelmintic resistance], tropical veterinary medicine, and/or food safety and security) of the RUSVM One Health Center for Zoonoses and Tropical Veterinary Medicine. Interdisciplinary and collaborative research is encouraged. The candidate is expected to attract extramural funding, initiate collaboration(s) with universities/research institutes of esteem, publish his/her research outcomes in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals, and supervise Postdoctoral Research Fellows and PhD/MSc students. S/he is also expected to mentor young faculty members in advancing their research careers, especially with planning research, writing grants and/or publishing research papers.

    Responsibilities

    Research (Weight: ~80%)

    •  Identify, develop, and lead research program(s) in one, or more of the following key areas. An interdisciplinary approach is encouraged.
    • Zoonotic and other infectious and parasitic diseases (bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epidemiology, pathology, immunology and/or antimicrobial/anthelmintic resistance)
    • Food safety and security
    • Tropical veterinary medicine
    • Publish research outcomes in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or secure patents, resulting in advancing knowledge within the profession/discipline
    • Attract extramural research funding through direct applications to funding bodies and through the One Health Research Foundation as an appointed Senior Research Fellow.
    • Forming effective research collaborations with universities/research institutes of esteem
    • Supervising Postdoctoral Research Fellows and PhD/MSc students
      - Representing RUSVM and presenting research data in international conferences/symposiums
    • Organizing workshops
    • Serve as editor/associate editor/reviewer of high impact scientific journals
    • Mentoring young faculty members in advancing their research careers


    Teaching (Weight: ~10%)

    • Delivering a limited number of lectures in a DVM course(s) that matches the candidate’s expertise.

    Service (Weight: ~10%)

    • Serve in administrative and/or search committees of the university
    • Other duties as determined by the Department Head and/or Research Center Director

    Qualifications

    The Research Professor is expected to be an academic of the highest rank with a history of leadership roles and significant contributions to his/her field. S/he is considered as one of the ambassadors of the university. Desired qualifications include:

    • PhD (any aspect related to Zoonotic and other Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Food Safety and Security, or Tropical Veterinary Medicine) is essential. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a DVM-PhD, or MD-PhD. PhD requirement may be waived for a DVM/MD candidate with an exceptional research background.
    • Demonstrated outstanding contribution and leadership roles in infectious disease research (bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epidemiology, pathology, immunology and/or antimicrobial/anthelmintic resistance), food safety and security and/or tropical veterinary medicine, as evident from some, or most of the following:
      • i) established and successfully led research group(s)/program(s),
      • (ii) published in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals,
      • (iii) secured patents, (iv) obtained competitive extramural funding,
      • (v) built productive collaborations,
      • (vi) supervised Postdoctoral Fellows and PhD/MSc students,
      • (vii) mentored young faculty/scientists,
      • (viii) received honors such as research related prizes, awards, or fellowships,
      • (ix) performed editorial/reviewer duties in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals, and/or (x) participated in international conferences as keynote/invited speaker/Chair/Co-chair of scientific sessions.
    • The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
