Ross University School of Medicine & Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Student Finance Advisor I to join their team.

 

The primary function of the Student Finance Advisor I is to counsel students on their financial responsibilities and assist them in developing a comprehensive educational financial plan while providing excellent customer service. The Student Finance Advisor I is knowledgeable on Financial Aid practices and regulations, and assists the department in ensuring students records are accurate and up-to date, while effectively managing daily reports and responsibilities.   



Responsibilities

  • Counsel students on all Student Finance and related matters while providing excellent customer service.
  • Assist students with the completion of Student Finance applications and other supporting documents perspective and new and continuing students.
  • Works within a student specific “team” as the subject matter expert for financial aid, assigned to help students in all advisement areas from enrollment until graduation.  The team consists of various advisors from offices within the institution. 
  • Promotes financial literacy amongst students and responsible borrowing to minimize loan debt.  Advises on budgeting, loan debt repayment and credit counseling to promote a secure financial plan. 
  • Proactively address any issues that may cause the student financial concerns in regards to student borrowing.  This may include contact with internal and external resources.
  • Analyze financial need for students and determine need and sources of aid for students.
  • Manages Entrance and Exit counseling reports.
  • Review and analyze weekly reports to conduct proactive research on student accounts.
  • Utilize various methods to communicate and follow up with students in regards to outstanding items, account balances and alternative methods of payment (i.e. phone, email, letters, etc).
  • Acts as the main contact with lenders to resolve students issues
  • Coordinates and monitors financial aid presentations and trainings throughout the University.
  • Follow-up on all items preventing or delaying the awarding of disbursement of Student Finance. This may include contact with internal and external resources.
  • Supports and works in cooperation with Campus and other departments. May be authorized to reach key department contacts to request expedited resolution of student issues.
  • Documents and tracks all calls and customer interactions into appropriate systems.
  • May be required to work evening shift per week.
  • Participates in special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed. Contributes by sharing ideas, assisting in pilot testing, tracking and reporting of results.
  • Completes department reporting as assigned.
  • Support Campus staff by traveling on-site to assist with office staffing needs.
  • Assist with Student Finance projects and assignments as required.
  • The Student Finance Department maintains a flexible and extended office hours of service. Team members are expected to work evenings and Saturday hours as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

  • Bachelor degree required; Masters preferred. 
  • 1-3 years previous Student Finance, or related field experience required.
  • Has an excellent grasp of Title IV Funding, Student Finance policy and assisting students in completing all documentation and tasks to assist the student in creating their financial plan
  • Must have PC skills in Microsoft Office and internet applications; SCT Banner, COD, knowledge or other University software is desired.
  • Excellent customer services skills required--a minimum of 3 years of is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills are required to clearly inform students of their financial responsibilities.
  • Individual must be well organized with a strong attention to detail to ensure proper completion of documents.
  • A team player with a professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task between calls--research and provide written response to students.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and exercise sensitivity to student concerns regarding financial matters.
  • Ability to work in a proactive environment that provides a full complement of services. 
  • Accuracy with data entry and analysis of financial information.
  • Ability to assist students with completing the various financial aid applications and follow up on outstanding paperwork.
  • Ability to be sensitive to student concerns regarding financial matters and be able to clearly and professionally inform students of their financial responsibilities.
  • Comfortable making independent decisions and executes tasks under pressure
