Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine operates a small animal community practice hospital to serve the needs of the university and St. Kitts communities. In addition, the School provides an experiential learning environment in clinical medicine and surgery for veterinary students. The hospital provides a broad range of clinical services, including 24-hour emergency coverage, throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be joining 3 other anesthesia technicians with the responsibility for providing technical support to four veterinary anesthesiologists serving the teaching and practice needs of the Veterinary Program and hospital.
  • Duties include assisting with lab and clinical instruction, demonstration, of basic anesthesia techniques throughout the curriculum for veterinary students learning both small and large animal anesthesia.
  • In addition, the veterinary anesthesia technicians share in the responsibility for anesthetizing patients in the Community Practice hospital, thus participating in weekend and emergency duties.

Completes other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  •  Preferred candidates will have at least 3 years’ experience working in anesthesia in an AVMA-accredited school or equivalent, or with a referral practice.
  • Licensure or certification as a veterinary technician is required (CVT) Certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in anesthesia is preferred ( VTS).
  • Must possess the standard technical skills, including but not limited to, animal restraint, catheter placement, blood collection, and diagnostic equipment, such as Doppler, EKG, and multi-function monitors.
  • Experience with large animal, small animal and exotics preferred. Willingness to work with all species is a must.
  • Must possess the desire to teach and interact with veterinary students, as well as excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
