Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) is actively seeking two Psycholoigsts with solid experience working in a university/college mental health setting, to join their Counseling Center team. These positions will be based at the campus in St. Kitts with a start date to be determined.   RUSVM’s Office of Student Experience provides programs and support to help veterinary students achieve their goal of completing the veterinary program and becoming practice ready graduates. The Staff Psychologist reports directly to the Director of the Counseling Center and provides support in the delivery of a broad range of psychological services to the RUSVM campus community. The Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and psychoeducational outreach programming contributing to the RUSVM Care model. The Staff Psychologist is an essential member of an integrated Student Experience team (comprising cross functional operational and student life departments) and will work closely with other members of the Counseling Center and student experience specialists in the delivery of an exceptional student experience. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative use of technologies and simulations, provides the best possible education for tomorrow’s veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at our St Kitts campus, and one year of clinical training at our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. Our ongoing research focuses on key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries and includes zoonotic diseases, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. We are currently developing active postgraduate programs in these areas.     A new Research and Pathology building was inaugurated in 2018 containing 13,000 sf of research space, including eight laboratories. The site features 2,000 square feet dedicated to pathology, including autopsy and histology suites, a multiheaded microscopy room for 10 observers along with a student viewing gallery and space for small group meetings. The research and pathology sections of the building were designed to BSL-2 biosafety standards.   RUSVM is accredited by both the AVMA and AALAC.   We prioritize recruitment of talented faculty and are now seeking a key new member of our team to join us as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century.

The goal of the program is to provide students with a hands-on, student-centered, outcome-based preparatory training experience that adequately meets the clinical year expectations and addresses clinical competencies appropriate for practice-ready graduates.   To support the program, RUSVM is committed to recruiting candidates that are dedicated to teaching and the delivery of an innovative and effective curriculum. RUSVM operates a dedicated Clinical Skills Laboratory where many of the basic surgical and procedural skills are taught, and support for model development and validation is provided. The successful candidate will be the Lead Vet Tech/Nurse of the Skills Laboratory, providing direction for personnel and enhancing the RUSVM curriculum with teaching and model development aimed at refining clinical competencies of students.   The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Dean for Competency-Based Veterinary Education. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Research and Innovation in Veterinary and Medical Education and Director of IT the candidate will develop, maintain, refine and validate strategies for clinical skills training, while also being directly responsible for clinical skills laboratory budget, operations, staffing, space and the purchase/development of technology and models.

Position Overview:   We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced veterinary anatomist with a passion for teaching who will contribute to the continuation and development of our veterinary anatomy program in comparative vertebrate and gross anatomy, including participating in case-based learning. The successful candidate must have the ability to instruct incoming veterinary students in the fundamental structural and functional aspects of anatomy with clinical relevance. Knowledge or experience in microanatomy is desirable but not essential. Faculty are also expected to develop their own collaborative research program or contribute to ongoing research with other faculty.   RUSVM graduates the largest cohort of veterinarians of any AVMA-accredited School in the world; therefore this position offers a unique opportunity to have a significant impact on dissemination of knowledge in veterinary anatomy throughout the United States, an area that is currently underserved within many veterinary curricula.   The successful candidate will have a background in veterinary anatomy in a veterinary school, and will join a team of 5. S/he will report to the Head, Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Position Overview:    The Director of Safety and Security will lead the safety, security, crisis and emergency management response to incidents impacting Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM), its students and colleagues. The Director will develop, maintain and review the appropriate security plans and infrastructure, to help ensure an environment where students and colleagues can meet their educational and career goals. The successful candidate will, where appropriate, lead or provide support for investigations of incidents affecting RUSVM community members and will maintain strong relationships with Adtalem and RUSVM leadership, Student leadership and St. Kitts and Nevis law enforcement. The Director will be a key member of RUSVM’s Incident Command Team (ICT), supporting quick, strategic and thoughtful responses in times of emergency or crisis. The positon ensures that all matters are handled with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism, delivering superior service to all RUSVM community members and visitors.    This position will report to the Vice President, Operations at RUSVM. Key internal contacts include the Director of Student Experience, Senior Manager of Campus Project and Operations, Vice President of Enterprise Safety and Security at Adtalem, and other Safety/Security leaders within Adtalem.

The primary purpose of uniformed campus roving patrol is the elimination of the actual opportunity, or the belief that the opportunity, for successful criminal conduct exists and to provide immediate and appropriate response to any individual who may need assistance. Close and careful observation is the principal function of every on-campus roving patrol officer. Careful observation enables the conscientious on-campus security officer to render assistance to individuals in need while at the same time eliminating the opportunity for criminal activity.    In addition, foot patrols provide valuable interaction between the RUSVM Safety and Security Department and the RUSVM community. This interactionbuilds trust and understanding between the officers and the members of the RUSVM community. It is the responsibility of each and every security officer assigned to a foot patrol to act in a manner consistent with his/her position, friendly, courteous, professional and observant at all times.

  The primary focus of the Senior Project Coordinator is to provide support to the Project & Operations department in planning, coordinating and delivering on campus projects that support the achievement of RUSVM’s strategic plan and achieving operational efficiencies. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Projects & Operations, the Snr. Project Coordinator will work closely with the various operational teams in Facilities, Site Development, Safety & Security, Information Technology, Purchasing and Finance, to ensure the required components of each project are incorporated into the overall delivery.   The successful candidate will exhibit a demonstrated record of successful performance in information gathering and organizing, as a high team contributor, in delivering outcomes and meeting demanding deadlines in a fast paced environment and working across functional areas to achieve objectives.   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty adequately, within time, and scope, ensuring quality in output.

RUVC also provides RUSVM students with insight into the daily life of a busy general practice in preparation for their clinical year. RUVC is provides the broad range of clinical services one would normally expect of a general practice, including 24-hour emergency coverage throughout the year. The post-doctoral fellow position is an advanced two-year research position beginning in the Spring of 2020. The basic objectives of the position include the further professional development of a post-doctoral research fellow in advanced scientific knowledge acquisition and communication, honing of practical problem-solving skills in resource-limited settings, and refinement of investigative abilities. Mentoring will provide the skills, knowledge, experience, research implementation, publications, research proposal writing and contacts to prepare the postdoctoral research fellow to excel in his or her career path. The main focus of the postdoctoral fellowship is to develop and support research activities in reproduction in donkeys specific to the Caribbean climate as well as potential immunocontraceptive studies in canines and primates. A large reproduction-based project has been established using donkeys from the feral population of Nevis. Projects include follicular and luteal dynamic studies, artificial insemination protocols, and immunocontraceptives effects. The successful applicant will spend the majority of their time based at RUSVM on the islands of St Kitts and Nevis working under the mentorship of Professor Robert Gilbert and Dr. Hilari French.
